Alpentrail race rules

  1. Fairness and good sportsmanship shall prevail.
  2. Abuse of dogs, with or without implement, shall be prohibited. If a musher or his handler abuses a dog, that musher shall be disqualified.
  3. Any communication from the race marshal, race judges, race veterinarian and the organization / staff to a driver shall be strictly adhered too.
  4. The minimum starting age of all dogs shall be at least 18 months. All dogs must be chipped for identification. Liability insurance for all dogs is compulsory. All dogs must be vaccinated, a vaccination certificate will be controlled at the Vet-Check.
  5. No person is allowed to perform any medical treatment to the dogs without authorization by the chief race veterinarian. Otherwise, the ESDRA Doping rules shall apply.
  6. Classes:
    8-dog class – dog pool 12 dogs
    6-dog class – dog pool 9 dogs
    skijöring with 1-2 dogs – dog pool 3 dogs
    no minimum limit number of dogs in all classes
    Duo registration for two mushers per dog pool,except skijöring, is possible.
  7. Passing rule:
    When a team is being passed, the overtaken team shall considerably slow down, if possible by use of the braking pad and not the claw brake.
    If the overtaking musher requests “TRAIL” or „STOP”, the overtaken team must stop – if at all possible with the braking pad. Composure and sportman like manner is expected from both sides throughout the competition. (see rule no. 1).
  8. A Helmet is mandatory for every musher during the race.
  9. Equipment:
    The Sled shall be equipped with a braking pad and sledsack.
    In the sack there shall be space for 2 dogs along with the complusory gear. The loading area and sack of the sled shall be at least 1 meter long (to the brushbow). The braking pad shall be reachable with both heels from the skids. It should measure approx. 20 cm x 30 cm, and in addition shall be equipped with a smooth functioning retraction mechanism. The sled must have chain brakes on its skids or a chain crossed around the braking pad. Mandatory equipment: Helmet, 4 booties per dog, flashlight (headlamp) and tie (leash) with carabiners on both sides.
    Mobile phone with emergency numbers (announced at bib number distribution).
    For the Night-run: All oft he above and a headlight on the helmet plus a second lamp in case of an malfunction.
  10. Injured or exhausted dogs shall be transported in the sledsack.
  11. It is mandatory that all drivers shall attend all musher meetings, bib number distribution, Vet-Check and any other officially announced meetings on time.
    Musher meetings take place one hour before the first start.
  12. Time limit:
    The race marshal may take a team out of the competition if on two consecutive stages the finishing time is not within 160% of the average time of the first three teams in every race class.
  13. By their registration every participant agrees to the saving of the personal data requested on the application form, as well as the public usage in combination with pictures, videos and interviews via radio, television, advertisement, literature and on the website of Alpentrail without claim for compensation on the participants‘ side.
